Among The Great Ones

Mul­ti­me­dia artist Mi­ran­da Ru­mi­na pre­miered an ex­ten­sive se­ries of col­lages ti­tled Mod­ern An­gels in the Ti­betan Pavil­ion in Au­roville, In­dia, in 2007. For the ex­hi­bi­tion MED VE­LIKANI / AMONG THE GREAT ONES in Kranj, she in­vit­ed Kranj-based fash­ion de­sign­er and artist Tina Pavlin to col­lab­o­rate. Pavlin added orig­i­nal stitch­ing to the print­ed re­pro­duc­tions of the col­lages, cre­at­ing an ef­fect sim­i­lar to graph­ics or draw­ings, while Ru­mi­na com­plet­ed the can­vas with paint­ing. The ex­hi­bi­tion presents the first sev­en works, which were cre­at­ed - and will con­tin­ue to be cre­at­ed - at the same pace: one can­vas per month. The present time re­quires new chal­lenges and uni­ver­sal qual­i­ties em­bod­ied by the world gi­ants de­pict­ed on the can­vas­es. Both in­di­vid­u­als and civ­i­liza­tion as a whole are dis­cov­er­ing new pat­terns be­stowed upon us by the great­est, most per­fect, and most sa­cred fig­ures through­out his­to­ry.
